Red Clover for Women's Health

Red Clover:

An Indispensable Herb for Women's Health

Red Clover, known by the scientific name trifolium pratense,  has multiple health benefits that should not be ignored. Particularly in the area of women's wellness, this wildflower proves to be indispensable.

Because of it’s phytoestrogen properties, Red Clover is often used by herbalists to treat menopausal symptoms such as hot flashes, mood swings, and night sweats. I often use it during certain times of the month to curb the symptoms of PMS. It particularly works well when combined with herbs like lemon balm, sage, and motherwort. I combine these herbs to make a comforting “feminini-tea.” I’ll post the recipe below.

Another tremendous benefit of Red Clover is that it helps treat eczema and psoriasis. It can be added to skin preparations like soaps, salves, and lotions, or it can be consumed as a tea. Rich in a host of vitamins such as vitamin C, beta-carotene, and all of the B vitamins, it helps to build a strong immune system. Many would be surprised to know that this herb also aids in relieving congestion.

Truly, I have only scratched the surface in the discussion of this powerhouse herb. I strongly encourage you to continue your own research and see how you can reap the benefits of red clover in your own life. Gingi from Domestic Geek Girl has some great Red Clover recipes on her site. I strongly suggest you check them out. I have posted the link to her blog below as well as another.

As promised, you will find my own recipe for my beloved “Femini-Tea" below. Try it out and let me know what you think! I plan to include some soap and salve recipes for Red Clover in my next post insha'Allah so please, stay tuned.
